Ecclesiastes 2:24  There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
The book Ecclesiastes is said to be written by King Solomon, whom also wrote a major portion of the Proverbs. Some who have studied this book say that this was an exhortation from the King from all that he had come to learn in his experience of wisdom, wealth and power. Through all of his extreme wealth, extraordinary wisdom, and power beyond belief he finally comes to the depressing conclusion that all is vanity. Vanity in a manner of frustration through application. King Soloman finds himself without satisfaction in all this wealth, power, wisdom. The more he searched for this fulfillment the more he found all was vanity and being lead astray further from God as he searches he finds himself bored with life. I think we've found ourselves conducting the same experiments with life, trying this and that. We seek for this fulfillment in everything: from school, jobs, art, romance, festivities, fitness, health, social status, sex, drinking, and even taking drugs. What are we seaching for? Why is it that we're still left thirsty when we've had our fill? Is it maybe that we've gone astray and that the answer could be simple and way less complicated than we make it out to be? Have we turned to our own way or gone beyond what God wants. God wants to give us a gift, the gift of living water but we must also receive  it through the giver whom is his son Jesus Christ. Jesus say in John 4:14  "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." Imagine the contentment in our soul without thirst! I believe King Soloman saw this in a righteous person that he could enjoy the simplest things in life, a simple meal, the end of a work day, time with family. That it is a gift from God to have such joy with these things. For my application today I will find joy within the simple tasks of the day.
