Inductive Bible study
1 Corinthians 1:26-29
"For consider your calling brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many of you were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and dispised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God."
Paul here is writting to the people of Corinth in an appeal to approach the quarreling that arose among the people; Pauls brothers in Christ. An earlier section he wrote " is Christ divided?" The problem was that they were dividing each other by their "favorite leaders" and by who baptized who. They were basically choosing to be separated into groups that believed their one leader was to be wiser than the other leaders. For it is not the wisdom of man but the wisdom of God that we followship by. Paul wants them to recognize their mistakes, " For consider your calling brothers" he writes. God desires the foolish, weak, and lowly to accomplish, what Paul goes to state "even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are". Shaming the rest which are wise and strong to leave no room for human beings to boast in His presence. It isn't worlding wisdom that we are brought closer to God by, therefore followship in the presence of our Lord through by what the spirit reveals to us. God exalts those who rest their faith in the power of God, not wisdom of man. Amen. In applying this today I will not look to the left or to the right to observe my brothers choices but trust that God has brought us in fellowship under one body of Christ.
