Uganda IBS 7 - Not fear but power

2 Timothy 1:7
"For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and self-control."
The second letter of Paul to Timothy, Paul is writting orders and instructions for Timothy. In this letter Paul is writing from Rome while in chains. Paul seemed to know that Timothy would soon be without his guidance. Paul actually writes "and the time of my departure has come" in the sixth verse of the fourth chapter. So it's quite clear Paul is preparing Timothy to take the new role has leader in ministry. 2 Timothy 1:7, talks about fear and a spirit God has given to us. When we live in ungodly fear, we miss out on the opportunities that God has for us. Through Christ Jesus we are given a spirit of power, love, and self-control. We must allow this spirit to help us guard what our Father has entrusted in us. The ministry he gives us for the furtherance of the Gospel and kingdom of God. I think this verse Paul wrote is so inspiring to the christian disciple. It tells us that we have the ability to fight the good fight without fear; but with power, love and self control. These attributes are so important for leadership roles in ministry. For my application today I will ask my brother to pray for me; to understand that I do not fight alone but with the Spirit and I should not fear anything against Him.

IBS 11 - Faith brings patience

Revelation 1:9  I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. John, writing Revelation talks about his time in exile on the island of patmos. For eighteen months John's perseverance and patience did not waiver. John, in this section of the Bible, displays a clear example of how we as Christians should act while suffering for Christ. Enduring affliction with perseverance and patience is only done in the spirit! John was strengthened by the spirit of God. Sustained by the spirit, even when in chain's on account of Christ's name sake. God gave John the perevilge to write the last book of the Bible in this time of exile. IBS 10 - Joy in being patient

Colossians 1:11 "Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy." In Paul's letter to the Colossians He is giving thanks and prayer to God for the faith of the Colossians. Prayer for their fulfilment in the knowledge of God's will. Going on to speak of the manner worthy of the Lord. Patience, longsuffering, endurance, with joy! For verse 1:11 this is the manner Paul writes of and it's an important one to understand. Naturally the flesh does not respond with joy during times of suffering. Christians find the ability to behave in such manner because it's a manner of the spirit. With the spiritual wisdom and understanding we find happiness in servanthood for the Lord. Here the lesson is that God strengthens his children to endure longsuffering and we should have joy for the  strength to do His will .
