2 Kings 4:2  And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
In this chapter of 2 Kings we find this small story of a widow and her children whom having nothing called upon the Lord. Small yet an encouraging gem of a story that represents how God can provide when we feel that we have nothing left. Elisha the prophet of God is presented with the widows problem and gives her directions to fill borrowed containers full of the little bit of oil she had left. The woman obeyed and did exactly what the prophet had said to do. Afterward she turn out with many containers full of oil just from one pot of oil. It was a miracle! She sells the containers and pays her debts with even some oil left for the family. We may ask... So what can I take from this as a Christian? Well let's see in our own lives we find times where we feel completely drained. Just then God presents us with an opportunity to grow or to be used and we are stuck thinking about how we have nothing to pour out. Feeling completely empty we have a choice between putting the little we do have on reserve or having faith that God can supply us with what we need and more. I've experienced times of feeling completely empty and feeling like I had nothing left but as I began to pour out I couldn't stop. God see our faith in that, it wasn't ever our energy in the first place but the energy the spirit gives. Everything that is good and comes from God is spirit given and was never ours but what is channeled through us. Jesus is ready to use those who are ready to be used and those what make themselves available for him he will guide and provide! I can apply this today by sharing this short story with my co-working in advice for when we feel really tired at work.
